On a genuine U-100 insulin syringe, the full 1 mL volume corresponds to 100 insulin-unit markings. On a U-40 system, 1 mL corresponds to 40 insulin units. “Units per milliliter” is therefore device- and product-specific, not universal.

What the evidence actually shows
Common capacities follow the same scale: 0.30 mL = 30 marks, 0.50 mL = 50 marks and 1.00 mL = 100 marks.

No. Its maximum volume is smaller: 30 U-100 markings correspond to 0.3 mL. The insulin concentration remains U-100.
Can I use a 1 mL tuberculin syringe instead?+
Only when the medication instructions and a qualified professional specify the appropriate device and volume. Its scale is in mL, not insulin units.
